Again, it’s amazing how much quilting one can get done when there are no distractions. Although, I will admit that this quilt has been ready for the upcoming “Fruit Smoothie” workshop for awhile now…probably since between the 2nd & 3rd series the Vancouver Canucks played! This is another pattern designed by Karen Neary and it caught my eye last year (Fruit Smoothie, Balis in the Blender). Joan and I will be teaching this workshop in Ladner in mid June. There will be more curved piecing in this one & reverse cutting of templates. So important to remember your reverse cuts or you won’t be able to finish your project! Batik fabrics can help you out but best to remember so you can use which ever fabrics you want. Making this pattern will also include how to make continuous bias binding. I don’t know why I quit making binding this way…it was one of the first things I learned to make when I started quilting. It is necessary for binding these curved outer borders but I also think it helps to make straight edge borders and mitreing at the corners smoother. It’s amazing how a 17″ square converts to 3m of binding.
Happy Quilting…Valerie Raye
