I was in Creative Quilting in Duncan in the fall of 2011 and heard talk about an outdoor quilt show that happens on a farm in Duncan. Fast forward to August 11, 2012 and me and my friends were on that farm enjoying an awesome quilt show. I still hadn’t finished my Knot for the Birds and decided to use the deadline for entering the quilt show. I work well to deadlines…I need more deadlines Anyway, I’m really glad that I entered the quilts because that meant I could find out what “Just Over The Bridge Women’s Centre”was all about. When I drove back to the farm on Sunday to pick up my quilts I got to ask Bobbi and Anne about the centre. The farm itself belongs to Anne and her husband and the double wide mobile that houses the centre used to be their home. When their other home was built they had decided to rent this building out. They then decided they didn’t like renters and wondered what all they could do with it. Anne was still working outside the farm at that time and was talking with Bobbi and other co-workers about hobbies and things that they did. Eventually the building was turned into a meeting centre for women to gather and sew, quilt, knit, chat and enjoy each others company. They meet once a week year round. I was invited to come and join them!! And I will, in September and after I track down the day that they meet…lol…should have written it down!
The quilt show is held on a picturesque, working farm with a creek meandering through the bottom of the farm. There were approximately 150 quilts to look at and admire. In the picture above the quilt on the far right is quilted with glow in the dark thread. The quilt 2nd from the right is one of 9 made by a group of friends.
I’ve always wanted to make one of these Winding Ways quilts. I love how the secondary design has you looking at circles. I see myself hand cutting all these pieces just like I did with the drunkards path quilts and of course it should be hand quilted! The one here to the left is made from batiks and has been quilted on a long arm…pretty nice quilt. The Winding Ways quilt below is hand quilted in red threads…I really like it too. The red & black is my Knot for the Birds
