It’s finally arrived—my favourite month of the year! And along with it the upcoming 10th annual Point Robert’s retreat. Three weeks to go! Last September each of us at the retreat came away with 8 blocks…one from each of us, all with a common fabric; foot prints in the sand.
Sister Patricia thought that perhaps we should have 12 blocks to make the quilt a little bit longer. And so the search was on for blocks that meant something to do with the beach retreat. I pieced together a sewing machine, spool of thread, a miniature quilt and an economy block with beach featured fabric. I accidently stumbled upon the lattice which was in my stash …and after shopping for border fabric (without the quilt top) I discovered the outside border in my stash too! Sometime towards the end of July I thought I’d better get it sandwiched as my intention was to hand quilt it. I’m getting there, I have 3 blocks and the border left to do with a deadline of September 21st looming. Did I tell you that I work really well to deadlines? Perhaps I’ll set a deadline for one of my “in progress” quilts and work on it while sitting on the porch at Maple Beach, sipping beverages.
The block to the left is the one our hostess made to share with her retreat friends. I’ve enjoyed quilting each of the blocks given to me by my fellow quilters as I find hand quilting a great time for reflection and this quilt is especially good for that! And I finally get to use “September Song” for a quilt that I’ve made! Can’t wait for Sunday, September 23rd for the quilt reveal…8 wonderful beach quilts representing 10 awesome years of quilting at Maple Beach!
