July 1st is just around the corner and time for celebrating Canada’s 144th birthday. Red & white are the colours of the day, along with lots of food, games, song and laughter. It’s an awesome feeling to watch your 3 yr old grandson pick up a flag and start singing O Canada. Last year I made my first Canada Day lap quilt and purchased plenty of red and white fabrics to make more for family members. <— The pattern is from Lavender Hutt designs and now out of print. I guess I can count my With Glowing Hearts quilt as a Canada Day quilt. It is red & white and full of great Canadian memories. I wrote about it in the April post “Favourite Memories.
Unfortunately, even with the best laid plans, no more Canada Day quilts have materialized. As I reflect back on why not, I realize that a person would have to give up sleeping in order to accomplish this long list of quilts that I have. Now that the quilt challenges, class samples and Canuck Place Children’s Hospice quilts are complete I plan to place another red & white quilt at the top of the list. Two colour quilts are fun to work with and I especially like the red and white contrasts.
Happy Canada Day! Happy Quilting…Valerie Raye
