Canuck Place Quilts 2011

Canuck Place Children's Hospice

On August 3rd seventeen quilts were delivered to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. A delegation of 4 quilters made the trip to 1690 Matthews Avenue in Vancouver to make this special delivery. Canuck Place is housed in a heritage home built in 1910. It’s a wonderful place to go when the reason for being there is not always so wonderful. While the hospice has received many quilts over the years they have not received anything quite like the ones produced for the Run for the Cup 2011 series. The community partners co-ordinator thinks all the quilts will be snapped up in no time as there are plenty of Vancouver Canucks fans accessing the hospice. We know that the Canucks won only 15 games but as word spread about the project Canuck hockey fans opened their wallets to pay for a kit, keeping quilters busy making quilts.  Eleven quilters produced seventeen quilts. The quilters used the I Believe in Blue pattern and individualized it by using embroidery, applique, silk screen, fabric crayon and adding their favourite player’s name. The first quilt was started in mid April and the last finished at the end of July, 6 weeks longer than the actual playoffs! Thanks to everyone who has supported this project from beginning to end. It has success written all over and it’s possible that we’ll do it all over again next year.

Listed here are the names of the quilters and those that sponsored the quilts. Each quilt was labeled and dedicated to each game won during the playoffs.
