June 16th was a beautiful sunny day in Vancouver. We had 10 completed Just an Illusion quilts and two flimsies on display at Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park. Quilters from Powell River, Vancouver Island, Tsawwassen, and Abbotsford participated. The quilts hung on clothesline strung between the trees. Many people stopped to look and ask if they were for sale…no one was selling their quilts! Not today anyway.
It was a perfect day for a picnic. We were fortunate to get there at the right time to claim two picnic tables as there were many families in the park celebrating Father’s Day! It’s amazing how fast 4 hours can go when you are sitting around admiring quilts, visiting and eating!
Some of us took the time for a walk along the seawall and down on to the beach. If you are into seaglass you should bring a bucket because you’d fill it in no time!
On our walk we stopped at this iconic part of Stanley Park. Talk was that we had all believed at one time that this “Girl in a Wetsuit” was a mermaid. Apparently she was indeed modelled after a mermaid in Copenhagen! She’s been sitting on this rock since 1972. We also got to watch this river otter eat his lunch…a starfish I think.
A most enjoyable day was had by all…wish you were there…maybe next time!
Happy Quilting…Valerie Raye
