3 Years & Counting

January 2014 is the start of our 4th year at Maple Leaf Quilters. The fun and friendship we get from our monthly sewing days, Quilt Camps and special projects just keeps getting better and better. In 2013 we had 8 sewing days which included piecing Just an Illusion mystery quilts, Mile-a-Minute quilts and a visit from Princess Leia at our “May the  4th be with you” gathering.

We had an excellent 2 night/3 day quilt camp at Edenvale in April. As always the food and atmosphere were top notch. We took requests seriously and added another night for 2014 Quilt Camp.

The mystery quilts were unveiled at Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park in June. We gathered there for a show & share and picnic lunch. It’s pretty amazing how one pattern can look so different by colour choice and placement.

Our year ended with a Secret Santa and cookie exchange at our December 14th sewing day.

We delivered another 16 quilts to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice plus 2 more for the Gift of Time Gala silent auction. This brings our quilt count to 51!

Quilters also participated in Breast Cancer awareness month (October) by making breast cancer pillows that were then delivered to the Nanaimo chemo unit.

Thanks to everyone who participated and helped MLQ participate in giving back. Check out http://mygivingmoment.ca/ because you’ve all had your giving moment.  Scroll across the top of the page, click on stories and you can read about all the others who have had their giving moments. :D
