Do you remember the rant “I Am Canadian?” That rant always makes me smile as does this Canuck t-shirt quilt. Candace had been collecting these t-shirts for a long time with thoughts of making them into a quilt. When taking the quilt home she told us how she had wanted to make a quilt but doesn’t sew…and now she is the proud owner of a queen size quilt.
This all came about when Joan was checking out the South Delta Swap and Shop and saw Vancouver Canucks tickets on the board. She contacted Candace and asked if she was interested in a swap and that we made quilts. It was a match meant to be made as the tickets were for a Tuesday night…that’s like my Saturday night! I was pretty excited as I hadn’t been to a game since the spring of 2011.
As I wrote in a previous post, I have been collecting t-shirts, but this was my first time actually making a t-shirt quilt. It was a lot of fun and very therapeutic as I worked through the great memories on these t-shirts…”I Am A Canuck Fan”…true for both of us!
Joan quilted it with the “Dazzle” pantograph and I made a trip to the mainland to put the binding and label on it. Candace came by later that evening to pick up the quilt. I think it’s pretty safe to say that she loves her quilt. When Candace handed over the tickets I asked her if she guaranteed a win…she couldn’t promise but really hoped the magic of this swap and shop would continue.
When we posted the picture of this quilt on our Facebook page we wrote that we were “Sending comfort to a Canucks fan in need.” The post came after the epic third period collapse to the NY Islanders. Loved one of the comments that said “Needs to be WAY bigger…there’s a lot of Canuck fans in need right now…lol”
Happy Quilting…Valerie Raye
