The original Neighbours in the Hood gathered in Powell River for a Porch Party this past Tuesday. We gathered there to celebrate Wanda’s 1st place ribbon from the Timberlane Quilters’ Guild quilt show, as well as a couple of birthdays.
The weather was the best! Sunshine and smiles all around as we ate, caught up and had our own show and share. Wanda hosted the porch party and had her quilts hung for all to see. No porch party is complete without quilts to wrap up in. Aileen is wrapped in the comfort quilt that we made in March 2001. She has it to help her through the stress of getting her teacher’s certification while working two jobs! It looks like it’s working.
Here’s Wanda with her 1st place ribbon in the comfort quilt category. Doris is showing her talent by describing how she enlarged not only the quilt but the appliques as well. Doris always likes to make things big! She enlarged the original pattern from Anna Faustino’s Simply Stunning Woven Quilts…these quilts are usually around 24″ – 36″ square. The appliques were also enlarged from very small pictures she found on the internet.
After dinner I got to do a little show and share too and surprised my good friend Judy with the Baby Honu quilt I finished last month. She was really surprised too!
The quilt label reads “to my good friend Judy who loves Hawaii, batiks and has helped baby turtles escape to the Pacific Ocean.” The entire time that I was sitting in the sunshine quilting I knew there was only one place for this quilt to be. I got a text the next night saying how much she loved her quilt and couldn’t stop looking at it. That is the best reaction to get when giving a quilt…makes me
Wanda, Doris and I each have a completed Endless Chain quilt and took this opportunity for a photo op.
Happy Quilting…Valerie Raye
