The Story of Business Time

At our Maple Beach Quilt retreat in 2014 we learned that one of us was getting married the following September. When you’re a quilter the first thing that pops to mind is making a quilt to celebrate the occasion. Since we Maple Beach Quilters live in various parts of BC we had to get creative in how to participate in the making of this quilt. Joan and I picked out the pattern, a Fun Easy Designed Double Wedding Ring. We pulled batiks from both our stashes and sew :D the journey began to make this quilt for our awesome friends, Donna and John. Pat and I live in Nanaimo and were to work the first part of the quilt.

Pat made this beautiful journal to document this quilts journey. She hand cut all those little pieces and then stitched around each one…card-makers are as crazy as quilters!

After I finished making and assembling the quilt blocks into a flimsy it made it’s way to Powell River where Wanda attached the borders.

The quilt then traveled from Powell River to Tsawwassen for Joan to perform her magic quilting it. She chose a heart pantograph and linen coloured thread.

The next stop was to Kathy who was hanging out at Maple Beach in Pt Roberts, her task was the binding.

Kadi arrived home from Queens University  ( with a masters degree!) in time to name and label the quilt. Business Time was the perfect choice!

On September 11th five of us traveled to Vernon to attend the wedding and present this labour of love to Donna and John. As tradition has it, out of town guests are introduced. We weren’t introduced individually but as the Maple Beach Quilters! It was awesome as most everyone there knew how much quilting means to Donna, especially her Maple Beach Quilters.

BR: Patricia, Valerie Raye, Kathy, Joan. FR: Wanda, John & Donna. Kadi was unable to attend and Merle will be forever in our hearts. We are sew :D lucky to belong to such a great sorority.

Happy Quilting…Valerie Raye

Thank You one and all. I can say our wedding quilt has kept us warm in the honey chair (a comfy recliner that allows us to cuddle up together), and bundled us up while reading a good book. This is truly one of our most cherished gifts. I can say my life changed for the better when I married a quilted ( never saw that coming) but my family extended in the most wonderful way when Donna brought her Maple Leaf friends along. We don’t get to share time with each of you often enough. You are each extra special! As a group crazy as loons, but that’s part of your charm.

Ah John! There’s nothing a quilter likes better than to have their quilts enjoyed so enthusiastically!
