Hello and welcome to the Neighbours in the Hood

This blog is another part of an adventure that I am undertaking with my youngest sister Joan.  She and I have reached a point in our lives that we can finally follow through with, our dream of creating Maple Leaf Quilters Ltd.  Please stop by and check out our website at www.mapleleafquilters.ca

Here’s a little bit of info about the Neighbours in the Hood.  The title of this blog came from a guild challenge quilt that I created representing “my favourite spot in Powell River.”  And for me, my favourite place was my neighbourhood.  It was the first neighbourhood that I had lived in as an adult that actually felt like a neighbourhood.  The neighbours were friendly, liked your kids and dogs.  You really could ask for a cup of sugar!  Over the years it leaked out that I sewed and quilted.  While gardening in the front yard a neighbour approached and asked if I would help her make shorts like the ones my sons wore.  From there we started gathering to make crafts and finally to quilting.  The “neighbours” made quilts as fundraisers for school raffles, for those we heard were sick, for new neighbours, for any reason we could think of.  Over the years we would make a yearly challenge quilt…. a Welcome to Tyler Quilt, a Maple Leaf Quilt, a Hagrid’s Patchwork quilt and most recently, a Favourite Memory of 2010.
